Design My Project
Once you have your measurements, you can start planning your kitchen layout using the IKEA Kitchen Planner. There are 3 ways to do this:
Ordering & Returns
FOR IKEA or BUNNINGS ITEMS
In order to commence the process, it's necessary to have a finalised IKEA (or Kaboodle) plan. The cabinetry plans should be generated using the appropriate planning tool such as Metod Kitchens, Besta Living, Pax Wardrobes or Kaboodle Kitchens. This will create item lists, floorplans & elevations of your space with your unique measurements.
It is important at this stage to leave all fronts & sides on, so you can utilise the item list as your purchasing checklist. You will have IKEA or BUNNINGS remove these at a later point, when you are ready to order the items from them (cabinets & hardware only).
If you need help identifying which exact items you need, please purchase the BUILD MY CART Service and we'll provide a quote for you, based off your plans.
FOR CUSTOM SIZE ITEMS
You will need a list of all your measurements (for each custom size item you require). Make sure you read the Measuring Guide carefully and enter your measurements in mm into the Custom Size Calculator, item by item.
At our core, we operate as an e-commerce store, streamlining the ordering process for customers from the convenience of their homes.
The majority of our customers handle their orders independently online, utilising the PDF items list generated by either the relevant IKEA planner or Kaboodle planner.
For more extensive projects, if you find yourself facing challenges, we offer assistance through our 'Build my Cart' service where we will quote off your plans and create an invoice for you. There is a $150 fee that is redeemable upon purchase.
All orders are required to be processed through our website. We are unable to take payment over the phone or in the showroom.
Certainly! We're thrilled to assist our clients by assembling their orders, as it provides us with an opportunity to review the design before finalising the order, ensuring you're not over or under-ordering. To cover the time invested in this service, there is a fee of $150, which is fully redeemable when you place your order (min $1,000).
If you're interested in this option, kindly attached your completed IKEA plans with the IKEA doors ON when purchasing this service: Build my Cart
*Includes 1 revision. Please be aware that any additional revisions to the design may result in an extra charge.
All of our joinery products are made-to-order so unfortuntaley, no returns, exchanges or refunds can be issued on the basis of an incorrect order or change of mind after 24 hours. Please refer to our Terms of Service for more details.
Stocked items (handles) can be returned within 14 business days, only if they are undamaged and still in their original packaging. There is a 20% re-stocking fee that is non-refundable. The customer is responsible for packing the Product so it will not be damaged during the return transportation and is responsible for all costs associated with the return.
Lead Times & Shipping
Our standard lead time for all items is 3-6 weeks + delivery. These may extend during the busiest time of the year in Q4 (Oct- Dec).
CURRENT LEAD TIMES
Unpainted & Laminate: 3-6 weeks
Painted & Plain Veneer: 4-6 weeks
Shaker Veneers: 6-8 weeks
Painted & sealed items will take the longest, laminates and unpainted items can be a little quicker.
As delivery is made by a third-party service, we are unable to provide a definite shipment date at the time of your purchase. You will receive an update once the items are ready to be shipped. Customea will not be held responsible for delays by the shipping company.
Our shipping is based on the value ($) of your cart and set in tiers. The more items you order, the higher the shipping fee.
If you are ordering unpainted items, it is likely that the standard shipping fee estimated at checkout will not cover the costs. We will advise you of this as soon as possible and send you an invoice for the additional fees required.
Additional fees may also apply if:
- You are in SA, WA, NT, TAS
- You are outside of a 15Km radius of the Melbourne CBD
- You are in a regional area
- Have difficult access
- You have oversized items (240cm)
- Additional handling or manual unloading is required

These costs will be charged to the customer at the time of delivery and will need to be paid before we can ship your items.

Once your items are ready to be shipped we will engage a third-party courier or freight company.
It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items ordered can be received at their location.
The smaller in stock items (E.g. Handles)
These will arrive boxed or in an envelope at your door and shipped via Australia Post.
Small Joinery orders
These are packed in Carboard or MDF cases with metal strapping and will be delivered to your door via TNT, Couriers Please or similar providers.
Large and/or heavy items
These are packed in MDF crates and closed with metal strapping. You may need special cutters for the wire. You can get "Aviation Snips" at your local hardware store for $7. The crates are heavy (100kg+) and will need to be delivered by a special freight company (Northline, TNT, Hunter Express or Allied Express).
These will be delivered by truck, usually with a Tailgate and someone will need to be onsite to receive the delivery and help with access. The courier will contact you beforehand to arrange a convenient delivery date & time. If you are not home and there was an attempted delivery missed, a futile delivery fee will apply and is payable by the customer. If you are unreachable and the crate is required to be returned to us, the customer will be responsible for any return and re-delivery shipping costs.
The delivery driver will position the crate as close to your gate (for apartments) or your property boundary (for houses) as is possible E.g. in an entryway, garage or driveway (ground level). From there it is the customers’ responsibility to unload the crate.
Please note: shipping providers will bring your orders "to your door", they are not required to help you carry the items inside.
In some cases you may need to collect your items from a local warehouse or be charged additional fees (regional orders). If you know you are in a difficult location, please contact us before making an order to ensure we can get the items to you.
Customea is not responsible for any delays caused by the freight company. We are unable to provide any definitive delivery dates and make no such assurances.
Please note that in most cases we have access to the same information as you, so it is best to contact the freight courier directly and quote your tracking number, to receive an update on your delivery.
How it Works
Our products sit on top of of your cabinet carcasses (they do not replace the actual sides or tops of the cabinets). This means that you can completely hide the flatpack cabinet, making it look like any custom cabinet from the outside.
Our doors/ drawer fronts, side panels, top panels & plinths are all made here in Australia, to the same industry standards as custom joinery, using the same materials & finishes as other cabinet makers.
The difference is that they are made to fit IKEA & BUNNINGS cabinets.
Our products are sized to fit:
-
Kitchen cabinets (IKEA Metod)
-
Storage Units (IKEA Besta)
-
Wardrobes (IKEA Pax)
- Kitchen cabinets (BUNNINGS Kaboodle)
Our CUSTOM SIZE items will fit any cabinet you have as they are made-to-order to the measurements you provide.
Doors can either come with hinge holes pre-drilled & hinges (Blum) or un-drilled. If we are providing hinge holes & hinges, we will locate them in best practise/ industry standard locations from the top & bottom of your item- we do not allow customised requests of hinge hole placements.
Custom Size Drawers are always undrilled.
Our standard IKEA Kitchen doors are made to fit the current METOD model.
If you have the older FAKTUM model (pre 2014), you can still order replacement doors from us via the Custom Size page.
Usually, older model IKEA kitchens will have 15cm high Plinths/ Kickboards, compared to the newer models that are 8cm high.
You can also check the measurements of your doors. A standard METOD door measures 597mm W x 797mm H. The closest FAKTUM size would be 596mm W x 694mm H.
Yes. Our standard size items will come with all necessary hinge or drawer holes pre-drilled to fit the IKEA or BUNNINGS hardware.
Custom Size items have the option to be provided with hinge holes & hinges or un-drilled. Drawers are always undrilled.
No. All of our doors are our own designs, we do not make replicas of IKEA designs.
Our standard doors for integrated appliances will work with IKEA appliances as they use standard size doors & drawer fronts. (IKEA dishwasher, Fridge/Freezer)
For non-IKEA appliances, you can order custom size door panels and work with your installers to attach them accordingly. Refer to your appliance specification sheet for the measurements.
*Please note that integrated Fridges need to sit within a cabinet, as this is what the door hinges attach to. If you are getting a fridge that is larger than the biggest IKEA cabinet (60cm W), you will need to procure your own cabinet (have your builder or carpenter make one) in order to use custom size integrated doors.
Panels are usually provided in standard sizes and are to be cut to size on site during the installation process. However, if you would prefer panels in specific measurements, we can make custom size products, within our minimum and maximum ranges: Min 80mm and max 2400mm.
You can order these via the Custom Size page.
Unfortunately we are not offering custom size cabinets.
We offer a small range of cabinets, in certain fixed sizes only:
- Pax Cabinet Extensions: with matching Customea Doors, or without.
Product Information
We use the same materials as other cabinet makers in Australia. Customea pieces are made from industry standard MR (Moisture Resistant) MDF boards (Medium density fibreboard). Thicknesses vary from 16mm to 21mm, depending on the finish & profile.
- Painted Items: 18mm thick MR MDF. Painted on one side and the edges with 2Pac Polyeurethane paint. The back is white melamine.
- (Unpainted (Raw) Items: 18mm thick MR MDF. Raw MDF on one side and the edges, with white melamine at the back. The raw MDF will need to be sanded and painted by the customer.
- Woodgrain Laminate: 16mm thick Laminated Formica range from Laminex with matching ABS edge banding. Woodgrain texture with a Vertical Grain.
- Matte Laminate: 18mm thick Laminate range, AbsoluteMatte by Laminex. 1 side is in the Absolute Matte finish of your choosing, the other side is either black or white in a simple finish. The edges are finished with matching trim.
- Timber Veneers (Plain Profile): 17mm thick MR MDF with a sliver of real timber attached, sealed with a clear coat of Polyeurethane (Matte finish).
- Timber Veneers (Shaker Profile): 21mm thick two piece frame & center piece, made from MR MDF with a sliver of real timber attached, sealed with a clear coat of Polyeurethane (Matte finish).
For Painted Items
Yes, you can choose any colour from the Dulux Colour Atlas. We can also match any Taubmans or Porters Paint colour- just provide us with the colour name and/or code. (In some cases we may need a physical sample pot to match to).
Select "Custom Colour" when choosing your colour in the product selection dropdown and add the colour code in the "COLOUR CODE" field. The colour code is a combination of letters & numbers and can be found under Colour Specification (for Dulux). E.g. Vivid White: SW1G1.
This will apply to the individual product. If you have multiple colour codes, please select & enter the correct colour code for each item.
For Laminates & Veneers
We do not offer a choice of other colours outside of the collections we have.
Yes, we can match to other colours.
However, we do not know the exact colours that IKEA use. You would need to provide us with a relevant colour code.
The easiest way to do this is to take a piece to your local Bunnings and ask them to do a colour match at the paint counter. They will tell you the Dulux colour match name & colour.
If you have a very custom existing colour, a physical paint sample (pot) may be required, which you would need to ship to us.
Our standard paint finish is matt (10%).
We can do any type of finish, at no extra cost: satin, semi-gloss, gloss.
Please add your preferred finish into the Colour Code field. E.g. Tranquil Green (S22A3) - SATIN
Unfortunately we do not make sliding doors (for PAX or for any other cabinet).
Bi-fold doors: we can provide the two door panels (via the Custom Size page), but do not provide and drilling for bi-fold hinges. These would need to be done on site by yourself or your tradesperson.
No, we do not provide mirrored or glass doors.
No. Our max length for all items is 2.4m.
If you require longer pieces, E.g. for a 3m TV Unit Top, you will need to order multiple pieces.
Timber Veneer is a thin layer of real wood, adhered to a MR MDF sheet.
It has an A -grade side (front) and a downgraded side (back). All items, except for Plinths, come with matching veneer edgebanding.
All items have the grain running in a vertical direction, except for Plinths and large Back-of-island panels, which have the grain running horizontally.
Important: Like other natural and batch manufactured products, Veneers from the same timber species can vary greatly in colour & pattern. This is an expected feature of the natural product and is not in anyway considered a flaw.
Product images and physical finish samples should be used as a general reference only, and may appear different in tone or pattern than a larger piece of joinery.
Your items will likely be cut from different sheets and may not align or match exactly, as patterns and colours will vary from sheet to sheet.
For our painted items we have 12 standard colours to help with your selection.
- Cool White: Vivid White (SW1G1)
- Warm White: Natural White (SW1F4)
- Nude: Light Rice (S13D1)
- Greige: White Duck (S16B1)
- Light Green: Cat Mint (S20A2)
- Sage: Pale Sage (S22C3)
- Dark Green: Strong Olive (S19B7)
- Teal Green: Misty Moore (S26A5)
- Light Grey: Tranquil Retreat (SN4G1)
- Pale Blue: Calandre (SG5C1)
- Navy: Pacific Line (S41B9)
- Black (SG6G9)
You can also choose your own colour by selecting "Custom Colour" at no extra cost.
A filler piece fills the space between the cabinet and the wall and is cut from a cover panel.
Filler pieces are necessary because you can't install a cabinet right up close to the wall. If you don't mount a filler piece, there's a risk that you won't be able to open your cabinet door or drawers fully.
Installation
We do not diretly offer installation services. Please find a list of companies here that are experienced in installing IKEA cabinets as well as our items.
You will need an IKEA plan for them to quote off.
Installing Customea pieces should be as easy as adding the hinges and popping them onto your cabinets.
Follow your IKEA installation instructions the same way as you would with IKEA doors/ drawer fronts.
Side panels may require some cutting (if you have uneven walls or floors or need a shorter length) prior to attaching with screws (this should be done from the inside of the cabinet with short screws so you do not pierce through the cover panel as well).
Tops: can be attached using strong double-sided tape.
Sides: should be attached with screws (25mm) from inside the cabinet.
