A Shaker door with a 20 mm frame: how it compares with Mini, Midi and classic Shaker, where it works, finishes and prices.

Slim Shaker is a Shaker door with a narrow frame. It keeps the recessed centre panel that makes a Shaker door read as classic, but the thinner frame makes it lighter and more contemporary. It sits comfortably in a modern kitchen and still suits a traditional one.

What is a Slim Shaker door?

A Shaker door is a recessed centre panel inside a raised frame. On our Slim Shaker profile that frame is 20 mm wide. The panel takes up more of the face, so from a distance the door looks closer to a flat door with a fine outline drawn around it.

How does it compare with the other Shaker frames?

Profile Frame width
Mini Shaker 10 mm
Slim Shaker 20 mm
Midi Shaker 40 mm
Shaker 60 mm

French Shaker and Round Shaker change the shape rather than the width: French Shaker bevels the inner edge of the frame, and Round Shaker softens the recessed rectangle with no square frame edges. Our Shaker vs flat guide compares the whole family with flat doors.

Where does Slim Shaker work well?

  • Narrow doors and shallow drawer fronts. A wide frame takes up a lot of a 20 cm door or a shallow drawer front. A 20 mm frame leaves room for the panel, so the proportions hold across a whole kitchen.
  • Kitchens that mix styles. It has the outline of a traditional door with a cleaner face, which helps when the rest of the room is modern.
  • Two-tone schemes. In our gallery, Slim Shaker appears in Warm White (Dulux Natural White) beside American Oak NAVURBANâ„¢, in Dulux Lexicon Quarter beside Autumn Oak woodgrain laminate, and on its own in Dulux Piglet, a soft pink.

Which finishes can you get it in?

  • Painted (2Pac). Any of our 12 standard colours or any Dulux, Taubmans or Porters colour. Browse the painted Slim Shaker doors for IKEA METOD.
  • Unpainted (Raw). Moisture-resistant MDF, ready for you to paint.
  • NAVURBANâ„¢. Slim Shaker is one of the three NAVURBANâ„¢ profiles, developed with New Age Veneers. NAVURBANâ„¢ doors are made in our Mortdale factory.

Laminex, Formica and Polytec Decorative come in Plain only, so there is no Slim Shaker in those. Polytec Thermofoil has its own narrow Shaker profiles, Fine Shaker and Micro Shaker.

Which IKEA and Bunnings cabinets does it fit?

Slim Shaker is available across our ranges for IKEA METOD, PAX and BESTÃ…, PAX extension cabinets and Bunnings kitchens, in the same sizes and drilling as those systems.

What does a Slim Shaker door cost?

For a 60 × 80 cm METOD door (597 × 797 mm), as priced on our site in October 2026:

Finish Slim Shaker Plain, for comparison
Unpainted (Raw) $160 $100
Painted (2Pac Poly) $335 $285
NAVURBANâ„¢ $370 $255

A painted Slim Shaker door costs the same as a painted Shaker, French Shaker or Coastal door of the same size.

Anything to watch for?

On large custom-size pieces, routed profiles including Slim Shaker carry a higher risk of bowing as the piece gets bigger. For a very large panel, Plain is the safer choice.
