Hinges are the part of a door project people think about last, and the part that decides whether the doors go on in an afternoon. If you are putting custom doors on IKEA cabinets, the good news is that the hinges are the same ones IKEA sells. Here is what to buy, what we drill, and what to watch for on custom-size doors.

Which hinges do Customea doors use on IKEA cabinets?

IKEA's own. Our METOD doors come drilled to IKEA's hinge pattern, and our PAX and BESTΓ… doors come with hinge holes drilled to suit IKEA's standard hinges. The hinges themselves are not included: you buy them from IKEA with your cabinets. Your installer then hangs our doors exactly as they would hang IKEA's.

Because the hinges are IKEA's, the cabinets and doors line up the way IKEA designed them to, and any spare or replacement hinge is one you can pick up from IKEA.

How much do the hinges add?

Not much, but put them on the IKEA list so they arrive with the cabinets. In the worked examples on our How it Works page, the IKEA hinges for a 100 cm wide PAX wardrobe were one 4-pack of KOMPLEMENT hinges at $40, and the hinges for a 240 cm BESTΓ… TV unit were four 2-packs at $15 each. Those are IKEA's prices at the time, so check IKEA for today's.

What about drawer fronts?

Drawer fronts don't use hinges. They fix to the drawer box. Our METOD drawer fronts come drilled to IKEA's pattern, and the drawer fronts in our PAX doors-and-drawers sets screw onto IKEA's KOMPLEMENT drawers.

Where do handle holes go?

Handle holes on our METOD doors and drawer fronts are drilled on site by your installer, which lets you place each handle where you want it once the doors are hung. Browse our handles and knobs while you are choosing doors, since the handle size affects the drilling.

Hinges on custom-size doors

For doors made to your own measurements, for IKEA cabinets in non-standard spots or for other brands of cabinet, you choose one of two options when you order:

  • With hinges and drilling. We supply Blum hinges and drill the hinge holes 100 mm from the top and bottom of the door, for $30 per item.
  • Without hinges, undrilled. Choose this if you are reusing your existing hinges or buying them elsewhere.

Custom drawer fronts and panels always arrive undrilled, with no hardware. You can order custom pieces through the bespoke door builder, and our custom size page has the measuring and installation guides.

Which hinges don't we supply?

We don't supply vertical lift-up hinges or corner hinges. For a lift-up door or a corner door, order it undrilled and supply and fit your own hinges on site.

Common questions

Do Customea doors come with hinges?

Standard METOD, PAX and BESTΓ… doors don't. They come drilled for IKEA's standard hinges, which you buy from IKEA. Custom-size doors can be ordered with Blum hinges and drilling for $30 per item.

Can I reuse my existing hinges?

On IKEA cabinets, our standard doors suit IKEA's standard hinges. On custom-size doors, order them undrilled and your installer drills them to suit the hinges you are reusing.

Do you drill handle holes?

Not on METOD doors and drawer fronts. Handle holes are drilled on site by your installer.

Can you supply hinges for a lift-up or corner door?

No. Order those doors undrilled and fit your own hinges on site.
